Shoulder Harnesses for the rear seats

Postby Prmetime » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:40 pm

Hello all,
I have been doing research to adding shoulder harnesses to my airplane. I like the kits from Wag Aero that are STC'd for the front seats of the Stinson. However, those harnesses aren't "legal" for the rear seats. Does anyone know if there is a legal way to install shoulder harnesses for the rear seats in a Stinson 108?

Here is what I found out about this. The FAA wants shoulder harnesses in the aircraft as it improves safety. Whether the harnesses are STC'd or not, the FAA would rather have something over nothing in our older aircraft. So, I don't think there is any limit in putting shoulder harnesses in your Stinson, front or rear. If you have any data disputing this, please let me know.

We may have the information on the ISC site, but I'm busy packing for Sun 'n Fun and don't have time to look. On the Yahoo Group, in files, is a policy statment, FAA Shoulder Harness retrofit. Basically, an A & P installs aircraft grade parts, without making structural changes and signs off a minor change in the logbook.

This was a case where the FAA used commen sense and ruled that something is better than nothing.
